Over the last decade, the month of October has been dedicated to increasing awareness and interest in the industry thanks to the efforts of NCCER’s Build Your Future (BYF) in celebrating Careers in Construction Month.
Throughout the month of October, “employers, associations, and schools are encouraged to conduct job fairs, panel discussions and local community events to inform students of the vast employment opportunities in construction,” according to Build Your Future (BYF). To do our part, we would like to kick off this month with a feature of five of the top construction industry positions that are actively hiring nationwide.
Project Manager
Annual Salary: $92,523
Like we shared in the final post in our Behind the Build series, the construction management team is a critical part of any project. Project managers keep projects on time and on budget, supporting everything from the initial planning to ongoing jobsite supervising.
Mobile Crane Operator
Annual Salary: $66,119
At first glance, operating state-of-the-art heavy machinery to move materials may seem like an impossibly challenging job. But when you take a look inside the driver’s seat, you’ll find that a series of joysticks, levers and pedals make this job seem as fun as a professional video gaming career.
Power Line Worker
Average Salary: $68,262
Electricity is proving to be more important as the years go on. And, power line workers will play an important role in installing and maintaining the many cables and lines to keep our power grid running.
Plumber
Annual Salary: $59,627
While most think of plumbers as simply residential repairmen and women, they are actually expert tinkerers and knowledgeable designers. Plumbers take care of everything from proper water distribution to following local ordinances, mathematics to mechanical drawing, and physics to welding.
Architect
Average Salary: $87,500
Architects have an eye for design and a vision for possibilities. But even beyond coming up with beautiful home designs and innovative buildings, architects consider every aspect of a structure, including air conditioning plans, electrical systems and more.
These are just a few of the great careers waiting for you in the construction industry. Whether you’re just entering high school or are looking for a change in your professional career path, use the month of October to explore the many career opportunities in the construction industry.
