Name: Andrea Bolin
Company: The Beaver Companies are mass earthmoving, site development, and civil construction companies serving customers in the Commercial, Industrial, and Heavy Highway industries.
Title/Position: Labor Foreman
Years Working in Construction: 15 years
How Andrea Started in Construction: Andrea’s very first job was with Beaver in Coolville, Ohio. Andrea had experienced some construction during the last two years of high school, and all through school, she had her sights set on construction. Part of this was due to her family: Andrea’s whole family is construction workers. Her great uncle got her in through the labor union, and Andrea’s aunts were her first female role models in the construction industry.
What Andrea Loves Most About Her Job: “Hands-on work and being outside is my favorite part. The people that I work with are amazing, and we take pride in our work.” Andrea’s pride in her work shows: she’s been awarded Supervisor of the Year for 2 years in a row.
What Does It Mean to Andrea to Be a Women in Construction? “I just feel everyone has been treated equally in my experience.”
What Career Advice Does Andrea Offer to Women Considering a Career in Construction?
“Be yourself, speak your mind. Follow your dreams, set goals and achieve them. One of my goals was to be a foreman, and I achieved it. I was the first female foreman at Beaver. The owner of the company called me after work and asked me if I would take the job as a foreman, and I’ve been in that role now for 6.5 years.”
