The Women of Construction
I Build America – Ohio is dedicated to celebrating the women of construction! Women are a vital part of our industry, and there are female leaders at all levels of construction work. From foreman to company owners and executives, construction wouldn’t be the industry it is without its female employees. Join us and our partners in celebrating the success of women within your own company and across the nation during National Women in Construction Week 2021.
Meet: Megan Hauser
Name: Megan Hauser
Company: The Cat Rental Store, Ohio CAT: Headquartered in Broadview Heights, Ohio, Ohio Cat is the exclusive, authorized dealer for Cat equipment and engines throughout Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana.
Title/Position: Rental Sales Representative
Megan’s Story:
In her 11th year working in construction, Megan Hauser greatly enjoys her role with Ohio CAT as a Rental Sales Representative. She speaks highly about the fact that “it’s fast-paced” and that being in the field seeing “what customers can do with the equipment to keep the entire industry going” is way better than sitting behind a desk. She started in the industry as an inside sales coordinator after job hunting for public relations positions in marketing. She quickly fell in love with it! Megan did have a chance to pursue a marketing position for 9 weeks but realized that she preferred her previous role. For her, “one of the best parts of the job is helping the customers keep the world running, from seeing the bridges being built, to hospitals being renovated, to new roads, to projects like the new Rocket Mortgage Field House.”
Megan enjoys being a woman in the construction industry. She likes to shock people with her knowledge and prove to people that she knows what she’s talking about. She also thinks “that there should be more women in construction because it’s a fun field.” She loves going out and being able to run the machines. She remembered one of her first training classes where she was able to operate a 308 CAT Excavator and stack tires on top of each other, and she didn’t make any fall over! If she were to give advice to young women thinking about pursuing a career in construction, she would say “DO IT! Be the woman that is not afraid to go do something different than what everyone else is doing. Be a trailblazer!”
She has a couple favorite moments working in construction. One involves having the Cleveland Browns as a customer. She said, “I’m a huge Cleveland Browns fan, so seeing the Ohio CAT logo and a message stating we are the official equipment provider for Cleveland Browns is pretty huge.” She also said that she’s been on job sites where people say “you’re Megan Hauser, we’ve heard of you. Your customer talks about how great you are and how great Ohio CAT is.” She has worked very hard to establish that reputation and is proud to work for Ohio CAT, selling the Caterpillar brand, and providing solutions for all her customers. She appreciates how Ohio CAT makes its employees “feel like we’re all viable parts of the team” every single day. Megan truly loves working in the construction industry and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.
