Company: Continental Building Company, a national construction company that partners with private developers & clients to build places where people live, work, stay & shop.

Title/Position: Vice President

Years Working in Construction: 28 years

How Michele Started in Construction: I was hired as the Regional Marketing Manager for Gilbane Building Company’s new Columbus, OH office

What Michele Loves Most About Her Job: “ I am always learning… about a new client’s goals and drivers, about improved construction methods and materials, about a market segment’s struggles and needs, etc.”

What Does It Mean to Michele to Be a Women in Construction? “Early in my career it was tough because there were so few professional women in management and executive roles in Construction.  But I quickly realized that creativity, good communication skills, taking initiative, being professional, and demonstrating leadership are universally desired and needed in this industry and gender biases are less of an issue.  I’m excited to see more and more young women choose construction as their career choice.”

What Career Advice Does Michele Offer to Women Considering a Career in Construction? 

Don’t let assumptions and perceptions deter you.  Commercial construction is an ever-changing industry where you constantly will be challenged and learning… and bright, driven women can become executives.
