Each year, I Build America Ohio takes the opportunity during Women in Construction Week to share the stories of the women across the state who make up our great industry. How many years have you been working in construction? 5 years
In your experience, what do women bring to the construction industry?
Women are important in all industries because having women as part of the team increases productivity, creativity, improves performance, staff retention, and enhances collaboration. According to studies most gender-diverse companies are 21% more likely to experience above-average profitability. A diverse workforce is high performing workforce.
In what ways does your company support more women joining the industry?
Our organization partners and supports several workforce development initiatives which share the trade with woman throughout the region. One of these is Women in Construction Week. There are many others that we partner with including High School Outreach, Inspire Events and much more!
What do you like most about working in construction?
I love the opportunity to contribute in a field that Builds America! Our efforts directly impact the quality of life of the places we live, work and play. It is amazing to see the projects come to life and how these projects positively impact all these places.
If you were to give young women (high school students) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say?
Do not walk, RUN! towards this opportunity. The earning potential and opportunity to create a long-term career are outstanding. The opportunities are limitless and as more women join the trade we will begin to shape and mold how construction looks in the future.
