At I Build America – Ohio, we mostly highlight Ohio-based projects on our blog. We are proud of all the incredible work our construction crews do for our communities every year. Yes, our home state is home to many impressive projects: we connect the United States with solid interstate systems, creating a bridge for states spanning from the north to the south and the east to the west, and we inspire all visitors with memorable structures. But today, we’d like to move outside of Ohio to a more global level.
After we learned of a recent report by Construction Drive, we couldn’t help but be inspired by all the projects projected for the year in countries throughout the world. Today, we share the top 3 international projects we hope you keep an eye out for this year. Yes, there are countless large projects planned for this year in our home country, but we hope today’s article shows how you can take your career in construction beyond your state borders.
Project 1: P180 Office Building in Warsaw, Poland
Skanksa AB, a multinational construction and development company based in Sweden, is constructing an impressive office building near area metro and bus stops in Warsaw. This office building will boast 15 floors and 344,000 square feet of leasable space upon completion. As the fifth-largest construction company in the world, this large undertaking has the manpower it needs to be successful.
Aside from the impressive size of this structure, what we love most about the P180 Office Building is that it will be constructed within the WELL certification guidelines. While it takes more thoughtful upfront work, following this strict building criteria will lead to a better environment for all workers and visitors as it focuses on the well-being and comfort of all.
When you choose a career in construction, you have the power to positively impact individuals’ lives through positive construction methods like the WELL certification standards.
Project 2: Victoria Cross Tower in Sydney, Australia
Approved last summer, the Victoria Cross Tower project will begin development early this year. This commercial building project will bring a 42-story tower with space for 7,000 office workers in 600,000 square feet to downtown Sydney, Australia.
But this isn’t just a standard office building. In fact, its retail space will connect to the Sydney Metro Network beneath the high-rise. This forward-thinking design will make the Victoria Cross Tower the biggest public transportation project in the country.
When you choose a career in construction, you can connect communities in more ways than one.
Project 3: Red Sea International Airport Expansion in Saudi Arabia
This is no ordinary airport expansion project. Designed by U.K. architect Foster + Partners, this airport upgrade will cover 13,100 square miles of the Red Sea coast. Not only will it be a travel hub for international travelers, but it will also include unexpected attractions like beautiful coral reefs and dormant volcanoes across 90 islands.
The Red Sea International Airport Expansion project was announced in December after Los Angeles-based AECOM signed on to work with the Red Sea Development Co. AECOM will oversee the work on the expansion project, which began this month. According to Global Construction Review, this project is scheduled to be completed in 2022 as part of the greater airport expansion project to be completed by 2030.
When you choose a career in construction, you have the opportunity to create impressive structures that delight the eye as much as it supports everyday needs.
We hope these three projects help you see the potential of a career in construction.
