While everyone else is preparing for a romantic Valentine’s Day celebration, we’d like to dedicate today’s blog to sharing what we love about our job. There’s plenty of things that make working in the construction industry the best, but today, we share the top three things we hear most often from industry professionals.
- “The type of work is rewarding and anything but boring.”
The standard desk job is restrictive: you’re literally bound to a desk and stuck indoors in uncomfortable, professional clothes all day long, completing tasks that often don’t lead to a clear, tangible result for quite some time. Construction, on the other hand, is freeing: you stay active all day, literally creating something out of nothing with your own two hands.
What’s not to love about a job that allows you freedom to move? Not only is it more enjoyable today, it’s also beneficial long-term. Experts now refer to sitting as the new smoking. All that physical activity during the work day helps construction workers stay physically fit.
- “A construction career provides a sense of security and stability.”
The construction industry is still in the midst of a labor shortage. It’s no secret that we are in need of skilled workers. And though this does, in fact, lead to some challenges, it creates even more opportunities for the construction workforce. If you are a highly trained individual, you can feel confident that you’ll easily find a job, keep it for as long as you do good work, and earn great money while you’re there.
There’s nothing quite like the sense of security that comes from a reliable career. Skilled tradesmen and women love how this job security stays with them, no matter where they live. Unlike other lines of work that make it challenging to find a new job in a new city, a construction career moves with you, giving you even more flexible freedom and comforting security. If a spouse is suddenly relocated, this mobile career allows construction workers to continue to do what they love. And it typically isn’t hard to find a new position. Construction sites everywhere are always seeking hardworking employees.
- “The industry provides endless opportunities.”
Construction workers love that there’s always something new waiting for them, both from a project standpoint as well as career advancement. Whether building a new event center for the local community or learning a new trade to earn a promotion, construction workers literally build their careers. The self-made aspect of a career in construction is what sets it apart from many other careers and is what leads to countless possibilities.
These rewarding opportunities are made even sweeter with the promise of competitive pay that creates a comfortable lifestyle. Not only do construction workers make great money over the course of their career, they are able to start earning faster without going into debt.
These are just three of the top things construction industry members have to say about working in the industry. Now, we’d love to hear what you love most about working in the construction industry. Share your story with us on Facebook and on Instagram @ibuildamerica_ohio.
