Years in Construction: 32 years
What was your path to a career in construction?
I start out installing commercial/residential fence for 7 years. After acquiring my CDL, I began driving a dump truck that also led to a front-end loader, loading my own truck; hency my love for heavy equipment bringing me to the diversity I have being a cement truck driver/pourer now into my second year; being the base of every great creation.
What do you like most about working in construction?
I have always loved working outside, having a physical job, and in a sense being my own boss. Witnessing first-hand things being constructed from the ground up, knowing that I played a part in making that happen.
Have you seen a change in the opportunities for women in construction over the course of your career?
Definitely. Women in construction has doubled or even tripled. There’s nothing women can’t do!
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
That more women join in, become leaders and be a significant part in Building America.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say?
Being in the construction field gives you independence but also the ability to be self sufficient not only in the field but in everyday life.
