I Build America – Ohio is dedicated to celebrating the women of construction. Women are a vital part of our industry, and there are female leaders at all levels of construction work. From foreman to company owners and executives, construction wouldn’t be the industry it is without its female employees. What was your path to a career in construction?
I originally attended University for Environmental Science and when I started my career, I worked for an environmental company. Since environmental and safety are so close in nature, I slowly moved into a safety position which led to my current job for a heavy equipment company.
What do you like most about working in construction?
Working in construction has opened my eyes to how much goes into a project from the machinery to the actual construction itself. Also, the safety involved in a project to keep construction workers safe. There are just so many layers that no one truly understands. I really enjoy working with customers as well!
What do you hope to see for the future of women in construction?
I hope the future of women in construction continues to grow and more women get involved in every aspect of construction. One day, I see women being just as equal to men in the constructions fields.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say?
The advice I would give a young women thinking about beginning a career in construction would be to just go for it. Women are just as capable of being successful in the industry as men. Put your all into it and you can achieve everything you want!
