Years working in construction: 4
What was your path to a career in construction? My father owns a concrete construction company and I started out learning how to prep and pour concrete when I was 17 years old. After high school, I started to work in the office and worked there for 2 years. My dad bought a concrete pump truck in 2021 and I wanted to learn how to do it, so left the office and started learning. My dad thought it was just a fad for me but I found out its what I love to do and I’ve been a pump truck operator ever since.
What do you like most about working in construction? I like working with the people in the industry and learning, its fast paced and I get to drive big trucks and get paid to play in the mud.
This year’s theme is “Keys to the Future.” What is the key to the future of construction in Ohio? The ability to provide enough skilled labor to perform the work. I also believe there needs to be a push for more women to join the construction industry.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction? Don’t be afraid to try anything and have faith in yourself.
