What was your path to a career in construction? Construction runs in the family – my dad and uncle owned Columbus Asphalt Paving, Inc. They brought me on board as Office Manager back in 2008, and I’ve been part of the crew ever since. When they decided to sell the business in 2021, we became CAP-STONE & Associates, Inc. Despite the change, I’ve stuck with my same role in the company and I enjoy it as much as ever!
What do you like most about working in construction? The people. It’s a fun environment most days and you get to work with people from all walks of life.
This year’s theme is “Keys to the Future.” What is the key to the future of construction in Ohio? I think the most important key to the future of construction is workforce development and training. The construction industry is facing a significant shortage of skilled labor and women are definitely an underutilized talent pool.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction? Take time to explore all the different aspects of the construction industry. Whether it’s design, engineering, project management, skilled trades, or technology, the list is long and full of opportunity.
