Name: Monica V.
Company: Turn – Key Tunneling, Inc.

Years working in construction: 30
What was your path to a career in construction? I started out as a Secretary with a Heavy Highway Construction company while I was in college and moved up in the rankings over the years to the Accounting Department to Project Coordinator to Project Manager to Director of Operations to my present position as Vice President.
What do you like most about working in construction? Every day is different in Construction; there is always a new problem that you’ve never dealt with before on a daily basis. It’s that constant challenge that gets in your blood!!
This year’s theme is “Keys to the Future.” What is the key to the future of construction in Ohio? Great leadership to be able to maintain and motivate your employees in the current economic times.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction? Everyone believes Construction is a “Man’s World” but there is so much opportunity for women in this industry to be just as successful. I would follow this up by saying never be afraid to ask questions and always know the why behind any task you are ever doing. Heart and soul will get you a long way in Construction. If you have this, the skill set will come.
